Code of Ethics
Adopted at the Annual General Meeting, September 2017. The ESVCE is committed to the highest standards of professional and ethical conduct in veterinary behavioural medicine. All members are expected to adhere to the following principles:
1. Animal Welfare First
The welfare of the animal must always be the primary consideration. Members shall advocate for humane, evidence-based approaches to behaviour modification and avoid methods that cause unnecessary pain, fear, or distress.
2. Evidence-Based Practice
Members shall base their clinical recommendations on the best available scientific evidence and maintain current knowledge through continuing professional development.
3. Professional Competence
Members shall only practice within the scope of their qualifications and competence, and shall refer to appropriate specialists when cases exceed their expertise.
4. Collaboration & Respect
Members shall treat colleagues, clients, and animals with respect and foster collaboration across disciplines for the benefit of animal welfare.
5. Transparency & Integrity
Members shall be transparent about their qualifications, fees, and the limitations of their services. Any conflicts of interest shall be declared.
