Working Groups
ESVCE Working Groups consist of expert members who review specific topics in depth and produce position statements, guidelines, and educational resources for the veterinary behaviour community.
Cannabidiol (CBD) Working Group
Reviewing the scientific evidence on the use of cannabidiol in veterinary behavioural medicine for dogs and cats.
Work areas:
- Scientific review of cannabidiol pharmacology and effects in dogs
- Review of CBD-containing products and composition differences
- Assessment of cannabidiol product effectiveness for canine behavioural issues
- Analysis of global legal regulations concerning CBD and THC

Shelter Group Programme
Working to assess and standardise animal shelter practices across Europe, improving the welfare of shelter animals and the success of rehoming.
Completed work: Flyer for future owners of shelter dogs.
Future objectives:
- Assess European shelter practices (euthanasia rates, rehoming statistics, breed data, temperament assessments)
- Develop an ethical charter for European shelters
- Create an ESVCE certification label for shelters meeting standards
- Serve as preferred contact for European Commission animal welfare matters
Electronic Training Devices Working Group
Published a position statement on the use of electronic training devices in companion animal training, reviewing the scientific evidence on shock collars, e-collars, and electronic containment fences.
